The strength of a women

The more I meet with members, the more admiration I have towards those women for their will and strength. They are not only active and smart in building household economy from small capital but also mighty in coping with difficulties in life.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong (Trao Ha hamlet, Duc Chinh commune, Dong Trieu District, Quang Ninh) is such kind of woman.

Mrs. Hong is the third woman on the right

Mrs. Hong has two sons. Unfortunately, the elder one has paralysis of both legs since his infancy. Medical care costs for her son was a great financial burden, adding more to the family’s current difficulties. The period when her husband and she took turn to look after her son in hospital was unforgettable memory to them. All their hope seemed to collapse when the doctors said her son would not be able to live any longer. Nevertheless, motherhood was the biggest motive to make this woman to believe that her son would get better and she would be by her son’s side to fight against destiny. After being rejected by hospital, she kept buying medicine for her son, sought for good doctors and medical practitioners. Hearing her story, I think that his mother’s sacrifice gave more strength to her son, urging him to try and live better to make up for his mother later on.

God never fails good people. Her son gradually recovered and paralysis was prevented from spreading to other body parts. The parents carried their son back to the hospital for check-up, and the doctors there were much amazed and admired their perseverance.

However, after that, her eyes became weaker, and she barely saw anything. Successive difficulties nearly knocked her down. She cried a lot and thought that she would be impossible to do anything. Luckily, her husband and children always encouraged and cared for her. Miracle happened again when her eyes got brighter. She was overwhelmed by happiness and thankful for destiny not turning its back at their family.

That small woman also demonstrates strong determination in bearing family’s financial burden. Mrs. Hong was one of the first members to borrow from Dong Trieu Fund with the first amount of VND 500 thousand. She invested the first loan in a fish pond. Revenue from selling fishes was used to repay the principal and interest and to save.

In the next cycle, she expanded her fish breeding production and also raised poultry such as ducks, geese, chickens, etc. In recent years, she was able to sell 4-5 litters of ducks a year. Chicken and duck eggs were ordered by villagers; therefore, she did not have to bring them to the market. Now, her family owns a fish pond and a separate area to raise chickens and ducks. Revenue from home production not only helps her repay fully and timely the loan but also enables her to renovate the house, improve family’s living standard.

Being busy all year round with breeding work, she is still enthusiastic about women activities in the commune. She is currently leader of a 12-household commune.

This short article may fail to depict all ups and downs that Mrs. Hong has gone through as well as great achievements that she has made. Used to be a poor family, her family now possesses a solid house, a garden and a pond. Her two sons have settled down with their own families and stable jobs.

We wish her and her family health. She and her center will keep being outstanding members of Dong Trieu Fund
