M7 - Dien Bien Phu(Views: 2469)
Dien Bien Phu City is 474km from north-west of Hanoi, surrounded by mountains and lies in the Muong Thanh Valley which is like a 20km long and 6km wide heart-shaped basin. It takes about 1 hour from HaNoi to Dien Bien province by air. There are some ethnic minorities residing in Dien Bien province. They speak both their own ethnical languages as well as the Vietnamse.
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu is a well-known historical event symbolizing the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people and army against French army.
January 1997: A Savings and Credit Program was funded by ActionAid Vietnam (AAV) and implemented by Dien Bien Phu Women’s Union . The first two communes of the project were Thanh Minh and Nong Bua – the two poorest communes of Dien Bien Phu City.
From 1998 to 2004: the project expanded its coverage to five more communes, raising up to 7 communes, out of total 8 ones of Dien Bien Phu city.
After the Decree No 28/2—5/ND-CP on the Organization and Operation of Microfinance Institutions in Vietnam was issued, AAV provided seed-loan and encouraged Dien Bien Phu Women’s Union to establish a social fund in order to achieve the professional operations.
After three years of preparing and submitting all the requirements to the Provincial People’s Committee, finally, on July 8th 2010, there has been a decision no 825/QD-UBND of the People Committed approving the establishment of the Women Development Fund of DienBien Phu city.

The fund is a non-profit organization operating for the equality and development of women, especially ethnic minority woman living in Dien Bien Phu City. The fund targets at supporting women in escaping poverty and attaining a better life.
