Sustainable livelihood for vulnerable groups in newly-urbanized areas of Long Bien (Hanoi)

Funded by The Asia Foundation from July 2014 to March 2015, the project supported 75 farmers belonging to two cooperatives in Giang Bien Ward and Phuc Loi Ward (Long Bien district, Hanoi) in upgrading technical know-how, product quality and improving sale:

Main project activities are:
  - Forming and improving operation of business groups or cooperatives
  - Technical training on safe vegetable production following VietGAP standards provided by Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute
  - Training on how to improve business
  - Product promodation and market linkage

Considering opportunities and threats in Long Bien, which is a rapidly urbanized area, CFRC initiated "mobile sale outlet model" which allows small farmers to directly market and sell the freshly harvested products to potential clients in urban residential areas in Long Bien instead of the practice of street vending as they did in the past.
